Our mission is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” At Mentone UMC we live out that mission by the 3c’s. Connection, Community, and Compassion.

Connection: In John chapter 15 Jesus said

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

At Mentone UMC we believe that one of the best ways we can stay connected to Jesus is through the church that He founded. We are all the body of Christ and we have a common mission. Our connection the church universal allows to better live out that mission and help people come to know the love of God through Jesus Christ! (NIV)

Community:

Acts 2:42-47 says:

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (ESV

We believe that our community goes way beyond the church building. We seek to build relationships that help people experience the love of God.

Compassion:

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25: 37-40 NIV).

We believe that Jesus words are clear and that any disciple of His must be involved in compassion filled ministry. The 3 C’S ensure we stay grounded in our faith and actions so that we can live out the mission of the church!
